The Partner of a Student Visitor Visa enables you to join your partner in New Zealand during their studies and visa is granted for the same period till your partner in NZ holds. You can’t work in New Zealand on a visitor visa. You can study for upto 3 months.

Partner of a New Zealand Resident Visa

This category enables partners of New Zealand citizens and residents to apply for residency on the basis of their partners. In order to apply under this category you must meet all requirements, show that you and your New Zealand partner are in a genuine and stable relationship and have been living together in a genuine and stable relationship for at least the last 12 months or more. If you’re granted residence, you can live, work and study in New Zealand indefinitely.

You must also show that your relationship meets the minimum requirements for the recognition of a partnership, evidence that your partner is an eligible sponsor and meet all heath and character requirements. You can also include your dependent children aged 24 and under, in your visa application.

Partner of a New Zealand Visitor/work Visa

This visa allows you to join your partner in New Zealand. You will be able to get a job in New Zealand. You can study for upto 3 months.

  • Your partner is a New Zealand resident or citizen and you have been living with them for less than a year – your visa will be for up to 12 months
  • If you have been living with them for more than a year- your visa will be for up to 2 years

However, you cannot include dependent children in your visa application, but they can apply for visas based on their relationship to you.

Culturally Arranged Marriage Visitor Visa

You can visit New Zealand to marry a New Zealand citizen or a resident in a culturally arranged marriage. You can also apply for this visa if you had a culturally arranged marriage overseas with a New Zealand Citizen or Resident. Once you live with your partner you can apply for a partnership- based Work or Visitor Visa.

  • If you’re coming to get married in New Zealand, your wedding must be within 3 months of arriving.
  • If you get married outside New Zealand, then you must apply for your visa within 3 months of your cultural wedding.
